Connecting with and without technology

It is no wonder we are becoming so disconnected as a society as we spend so much time using technology … and then allow ourselves to be controlled by this very same technology.

In today’s Podcast we are joined by a legend of connection and communication, Mel Kettle.

Mel, a specialist in social media, tells us that it is more important than ever to develop personal relationships outside of the bounds of electronic devises.

Life was once community based, but in recent times we have become more individualised and with the influx of technology we seem to be growing more distant from other people than ever before.

How do we get connected?  We put technology down!

In her conversation with us, Mel explains that, fundamentally, the best means of communicating is to lead by example.  It starts with us  …  Don’t teach unacceptable behaviour, such as it’s OK to take phone calls during meetings, and you will discourage others from constantly using their internet and phone etc.

How do we get connection?  We have conversations with people.

She suggests that we talk with people, both at work and in our social circles – to learn about them and share about ourselves.  Mel recommends that we keep technology in its place, that we become disciplined with the use of devices and avoid them when they are not essential!

Mel is always happy to have a chat, so please make contact via telephone +61 404 600 889 or email mel@melkettle.com.  She’s looking forward to talking with you.
